ROOPA RAMKUMAR, LCSW

My Approach

I specialize in treating adolescents and adults living with eating disorders, body image concerns, and trauma. I also work with individuals struggling with anxiety, relationship concerns, and overall self-esteem.

In our therapy sessions we will focus on 1) building insight about what has contributed to your symptoms and life circumstances, and 2) identifying how you can move toward positive change.

Eating disorders and body image concerns don’t exist in a vacuum. If you are seeking help for an eating disorder, we will leave room to discuss anxiety, relationship concerns, and other life stressors that contribute to your experience. I believe it is possible to trust your body again, and to break free from the diet cycles that cause harm to your mental and physical wellbeing.

It can be exceedingly difficult to find a therapist of color. If you are looking to explore how race and culture impact your self-image and your experience of the world, I am passionate about offering a space to do so.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I have worked in private practice, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization settings, all specialized in the treatment of eating disorders. I have also received advanced training in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in treating eating disorders, as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) for trauma.

I appreciate how important it is to find a therapist whose approach is the right fit for you. That is why I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation during which we can discuss your therapy goals and my therapeutic approach further.

Let’s take the first step forward.
